Tech Specs

Build Your Own Quantum Entropy Engine

What's Included:

Pre-programmed and tested PCBAs (main control board, nixie display board)

Authentic IN-14 nixie tubes

44-pin display driver IC

2x Rotary encoder with knob

LED and current-limiting components

Laser-cut enclosure panels (choice of basswood or clear acrylic)

Hardware and fasteners

2x rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion batteries

Detailed assembly guide with photos and troubleshooting tips

What You'll Need:

Soldering iron and intermediate soldering skills

Wire cutters and PCB holder recommended

~2-3 hours assembly time

Glue/adhesive

Your Build Experience: This is a semi-assembled kit designed for intermediate builders. The complex SMD components are (mostly) pre-soldered and tested. You'll install and solder the through-hole components including the vintage nixie tubes, rotary encoder(s), and LED. The HV IC driver necessary to drive the nixie tubes is a 44-pin surface mounted component.

ESD sensitive components shipped in ESD bags for precaution.

Features:

True Quantum Randomness: Custom cryptographic circuit harvesting entropy from quantum tunneling events

Die Selection: Rotary knob for D3, D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20, and D100

Die Selection: Second rotary knob for 1D, 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D, 8D, 10D

Auditory Haptics: Geiger counter-style clicks during rolls

USB-C Rechargeable: 25-30+ hour battery life

Educational: Learn about nixie tube circuits and quantum random number generation

Choose Your Enclosure:

Laser-Cut Basswood - Warm, natural wood grain with steampunk aesthetic

Clear Acrylic - Crystal-clear enclosure that reveals your quantum circuit, nixie tubes, and components. Laser cut components shipped with protective paper, but that is removed prior to final assembly.

Crafted for Game Night

The QED includes 2x 18650 batteries for your long gaming sessions.

The QED's optimized power management keeps you rolling through marathon gaming sessions, all-night campaigns, and convention weekends on a single charge. The efficient ESP32 controller and smart power circuits ensure the nixie tubes illuminate your rolls without draining the battery, so the only thing you need to worry about is whether you'll finally land that critical hit.

USB-C rechargeable - and the QED can be continued to be used while plugged in if required.

Multipe Die-Types at Your Fingertips

Why carry a full dice bag when the universe can roll any die you need?

Select from D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D16, D20, or D100 with simple button presses, and watch your quantum-generated result illuminate on the nixie display.

Every standard tabletop gaming die is available instantly, backed by true quantum randomness.

Verified True Randomness

This isn't pseudo-random number generation from an algorithm, the quantum entropy engine captures quantum entropy harvested from electron tunneling through a silicon barrier.

Battery Life

25-30+ hours on a single charge due to some power saving optimizations that happen at the firmware level. The entropy engine draws a mere 500mW while idle, and less when it goes to sleep.
